Renovate USDA & Lease to Purchase UPS System

  design build
McKinzie Construction performed a design-build project for the USDA at the National Information Technology Center in Kansas City, Missouri. The purpose of the project was to upgrade the primary and backup electrical power distribution system for the technology center. Two power distribution units (PDUs) were installed as the primary power system for the center. In addition, a new battery backup system was added and the existing one was upgraded. The 225 KVA PDUs installed by McKinzie included static switches fed from the existing power modules, three sets of Spectra Panels to feed the new PDUs and a future PDU, add two 1,000 KVA Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS), replace three 1,500 KVA transformers to meet new electrical demand, one 20-ton DATAC air-conditioning unit on the raised floor and upgrade ASCO controls on three 1,000 KVA generator sets. Each PDU had a remote distribution panel (RDU) installed on each side of the PDU. Other work included the installation of UPS modules, replacing existing transformers, modifying the existing battery room, replace and/or add 300 tons of air conditioning units, provide six new 800 amp 480 volt panels, update ASCO controls on generator sets.
